Building The Atom Task

 

The atom is made up of two parts,:

  • the positive nucleus in the centre which contains both protons and neutrons

  • Negative electrons that are ‘in orbit’ around the nucleus.

Most of the atom is ‘empty space’.

 

When atoms react chemical bonds are formed between the atoms by the electrons.  These electrons can be lost, gained or shared to form bonds.

 

Making a Model of An Atom

 

 

These are some pictures of atoms.  Try and make a 3D model of an atom that shows the nucleus, protons, neutrons and electrons ‘orbiting’ the nucleus
